Yesterday via Twitter, the US Special Representative for Ukraine gave a stark assessment of Russia’s military involvement in Ukraine. With the OSCE having posted footage of Russian army convoys entering and exiting Ukraine, Volker highlights how Russia is able to send “troops, arms, and supplies into Ukraine; all while claiming it’s an “internal” conflict and spouting disingenuous arguments about Minsk agreements.”
What about the peace talks?
The Kremlin has still not formally replied to the proposed plan of having a large UN peacekeeping force inside Russian occupied Ukraine. For blindingly obvious reasons, Putin doesn’t want this. A large peacekeeping force would mean him relinquishing control of eastern Ukraine and the 409 km of the Ukrainian border which Russia’s controlled since Sept 2014.
