Glasnost Gone

March 22nd, via the US Mission to the OSCE, America called on Russia to release Volodymyr Balukh and all its political prisoners. A farmer from Crimea, on March 19th, 2018, during a sham trial, Balukh was sentenced to 3 years and 5 months in jail. This was Russia’s persecution price for having flown a Ukrainian flag on his house, in Russian occupied Crimea. In protest, he has now started a term-less hunger strike.

US – “We note with great alarm the announced hunger strike of Volodymyr Balukh, a Ukrainian activist and recognized political prisoner, who was sentenced under dubious charges in occupied Crimea.” Full US statement. More info on him.
